Our Fingers are Crossed

On May 9, we are supposed to be here: (Cancun)

Photos courtesy of my parents at the resort we are meant to stay at.

However, with the Swine Flu outbreak, flights to Mexico are being cancelled through May 6th...as in 3 days before we leave. If the outbreak gets worse, they will extend it.
We've had this trip planned for a year. All my family is meeting down there.
I need the beach! I need chips and salsa! I need to speak some espanol!
Does anyone have any good plan B suggestions? San Diego is the best I've come up with so far.
GO AWAY SWINE FLU!!!

Easter Birthday

Jared celebrated his 26th b-day on Easter. We have completely opposite views on how birthdays should be celebrated. I hate to admit that someone actually has me programmed into their phone as "Birthday Freak." He said he meant it in a good way. It's just that I LOVE BIRTHDAYS! They are your own personalized holiday to celebrate YOU and how happy everyone is to have you in their lives. I like celebrating other people's b-days just as much as I like celebrating my own. I just think they are so fun.

Jared- not so much. He prefers that his b-day be like every other normal day, perhaps with the addition of some cake and maybe a card. He actually requested this year to not invite anyone over to celebrate (he doesn't like the attention, and is probably hating this blogpost). Well, that is just hard for someone like me, the birthday freak, to accept. So, I tried to make the day special in its own way. We started off with breakfast and a b-day Easter egg hunt!

I'll spare Jared the embarrasment of posting pictures of him walking around our house trying to find Easter eggs. Each egg contained a reason/story/example why I love him. He read them while he ate breakfast. Then he opened just one of his presents.

Had to sneak in a picture of my little son, Captain Noah, the pirate.

After breakfast, we went to church, came home, made Cafe Rio burritos, took a long Sunday nap, then went over to Jared's parents house for Easter/b-day dinner, presents, and pineapple upside down cake. Delicious.

Noah had fun eating the dyed Easter eggs. Like that blue around his mouth?
Don't you just love him?

and *gasp* I actually have a picture taken with me in it! Hardly ever happens!

Hope you had a happy b-day, sweetie. Here's to the best year yet!

Noah's First Word

" Da-Da"

My months of training him to say "Ma-Ma" first have sadly, failed.
What was your baby's first word?

My Life

Noah is now 8 1/2 months old and I haven't taken a single picture over the last month that hasn't been of him (partly due to the fact that I've had a double eye infection that has required me to wear glasses for the last 2 weeks). But mostly b/c Noah is so dang cute!

Close Up

After his first taste of soy milk (among other things- see shirt)...he loved it!

All tuckered out after a long day of crawling/standing/pretend walking

Look- one hand, Mom!

His latest smile...scrunching the eyes and giving a big, toothy grin!

I love being his mommy.

This Week

Real creative title, huh?

This week has been interesting to say the least. I have to say that I'm thrilled that it is Friday! Noah was sick all week. The doctor said he had a cold. He also got shots yesterday. However, despite being sick, here are some of the things Noah has learned this week:
  • combat crawl to any room in the house in lightning speed

  • pull himself up in his crib

  • run if you hold his little hands

  • to poo (he's had a constipation problem)

  • stand at the window (it's all he ever wants to do)

Noah stats:
  • 8 months old today!
  • 12 lbs 13 oz (I'm trying so hard to get him to gain weight. He's not a big eater (prefers his bottle), but we're working on it. I'm sadly aware that he's the size of a 2 or 3 month old)
  • 26 inches tall
  • Not even on the charts for height or weight

Something else we did this week was decorate Jared's office. It needed a makeover. I was so proud of myself for doing everything with a $50 budget. I'm only posting pictures of two walls, but there's also a big mirror and 2 framed 8X10's from our wedding.

13.1 miles

We're so excited! We just signed up for our first 1/2 marathon as a couple. The race is in Joplin, Missouri on June 13th. My little sister, Kallie will do it also. She is moving to Arkansas for the summer. (Hooray!) We ran a race together when I first got off my mission. It was awesome. We ran the entire race side by side (as we discussed) until the finish when out of nowhere I got some mad sprint in me. I booked it and left my sister in the dust. I felt so bad because I kinda held her back during the rest of the race. She would start going really fast and I would say, "Hey, let's slow down." I promise I won't do that this time, Kallie!

Jared and I both love running and I do so much better when I have something to train for. The timing is perfect too- one month after we come back from Cancun (intense training=beach bodies. nice bonus!) We just scored a jogging stroller from some friends that didn't need it. Besides that and waking up early to go to the gym, I think I'll be set. As soon as Jared's foot heals (see last post), he will start training too.

Wish us luck!!! :)

RANDOM

Things have been a little RANDOM lately.

These two pictures would not flip around. I deleted them and reloaded them, but they just want to be on their side. I guess it goes w/ my random post.

Noah is teething big-time. He has 3 on the bottom and is working on getting one on the top. This one must really be hurting him because he is a little fussy...NOT NORMAL for Noah.

Our little buddy has also started scooting. He gets faster and stronger each day. He also learned BA BA and DA DA and sings his new little words all day long.

Jared and I have been training for a half marathon in June. However, Jared pushed too far, too fast and is now dealing with what we think is a stress fracture in his foot. He's having a hard time even walking around. :( I hope he heals quickly so we can both still do the race.

I'm still staying busy at home, but cannot believe how much I clean. NON STOP CLEANING! It never ends. I can't wait until we are rich and I can hire a maid. It's not that I don't like cleaning, but I like doing other things also!
Oh well, Happy Monday!!!
