Insomnia

(32 weeks; measuring 34!)

Well, here it is 1:20 in the morning. Yesterday, I was up from 2-6 am. The night before 3-5 am. What is it about pregnancy that makes it so we CANNOT sleep during that last month or so? I guess between the baby kicking (I've got myself a soccer player) or the acid reflux (that started up last night for the first time ever) or the anxiety attacks (gotta love those, not!) or the inability to find a comfortable position and it's really a wonder that pregnant women get ANY sleep at all!
So what do you do when you can't sleep?
Having 2-4 hours of kid-free time in the middle of the night should be my most productive time. But honestly, I don't want to do anything b/c I am mad that I am not sleeping!
Tonight for instance, I've already: read a book, looked at old pictures, watched Noah's new goldfish swim around in their tank while wondering if fish sleep...(oh yeah, I was gonna google that), mentally packed my hospital bag (wishful thinking, quite ridiculous really, but I can't control my mind at night, it just swirls), tried to wake up Jared to complain about how I can't sleep again (he didn't respond), stared at the wall in bed for about an hour until my body started screaming at me to get up, and now here I am blogging. I felt like I had to talk to SOMEONE, even at the moment that someone is currently noone. Oh well, I know someone will read and hopefully, actually not hopefully, relate to what I am going through.
This has been happening for the last month.
I still have 7 long weeks to go until the baby is born.
Maybe I will talk to the DR. about sleeping pills. It's crossed my mind about 1,000 times.
Until then, if any of my fellow insomniacs have any good 'go to sleep' tidbits, I'm all ears.

Same thing happened to me starting around seven months, hang in there! Mine got really bad toward the end when we were having monster snow storms and all of the roads were closed (talk about panic attacks!). I cooked up all kinds of strategies (between 2-5 am) for having the baby if she came early and we were stuck at home...got to love pregnant brain! Hope you can get some sleep soon!

Is it sad that I can relate from remembering when I was pregnant and yet am actually still experiencing that same thing now.... not being pregnant! (just the not sleeping- the misery of discomfort is not valid anymore ;) )I hope its not the same for you. My mind wont turn off at night- my body goes into overdrive cuz I have to wake up and feed Kaysia and then the mind wont stop even though I cry please go back to sleep....Cuz naps.. no longer a promised option :( Best wishes~ sadly no solution :s

Oh Courtney! I was the same way! I played solitaire on the ipod until my mind went numb and somehow that would lull me back to sleep. I should be really good at solitaire now because i played on that ipod for like 2 hours in the middle of every night near the end! Good luck! i hope you find something to help you clear your mind and relax!

Oh my gosh I was in the very same situation. I so do not envy you but you know in the end it will be worth it when your holding her in your arms. And yes goldfish sleep, i catch ours every morning at the bottom of the tank sleeping on the rocks.

You can try benadryl or Tyleonol pm - that is the first thing the doctor will have you try. I have to take Ambien, but man, sleep feels good! Oh, and sorry we missed Noah's party. Elle had strep and we thought the best gift would be keeping that to ourselves!

Court, you crack me up. We need to be pregnant at the exact same time so we can chat while we both have insomnia. I think I remember organizing every area in my house at like 2 in the morning!
Oh, I'm googling do fish sleep right now!

I just happened upon your blog.....and read your most recent post.

I was the same way when pregnant with my first. Couldn't sleep at all...from about 6 months on.

Try taking some unisom before bed....it helps and it is totally safe when you are pregnant.
