The Great Hair Makeover

I was supposed to get my haircut last Thursday, but my regular stylist got sick and cancelled. I needed a haircut pretty bad, so on Saturday morning I found myself in the parking lot of GREAT CLIPS. That was Mistake #1.

I walked in and a 6 foot tall black guy with earrings walks up and introduces himself as my stylist. He sat me in my chair and pulled my curly hair out of the messy bun it was in. My hair was out of control. But I didn't worry about it, because I knew he would get it wet, you know, wash it and all before cutting. That was Mistake #2.

He pulled out his scissors and started to cut my dry, curly hair. I asked him if he would get it wet first. So, he used a spray bottle to spray one section at a time and then cut it. He finished in about 5 minutes. I asked him if he'd touched the layers. He said he thought I didn't want him to. (???) After he was finished, he patted my hair and told me my color was "jacked up." He told me to stay away from bleach and that I needed to do something really bad. It's true that my hair was getting a little bit brassy looking, but really?!

So, I paid my $8 to not so GREAT CLIPS and crossed the street to Wal-Mart, grabbing the cheapest box of brown hairdye I can find. Mistake #3. Dyed my hair black. Here is the HIDEOUS result of the 3 mistakes:

(Please pay particular attention to the ends of my hair...esp on the left side. And the "framing" around my face aka chopping 2 chunks in front.) (I don't even have words for this.)

So, I suffered through the weekend with ugly hair that I threw back into a ponytail. Today, however, my luck changed. I called up a friend yesterday, Lindsey Langley, who happened to be able to get me in today. She told me that in her 6 years of doing hair, that my haircut was the WORST she had ever seen! She even took pictures of it with her camera! Well, she worked her magic and turned my bad hair situation around. I'm so pleased!
Behold the AFTER:

Lessons Learned:
  • NEVER step foot in GREAT CLIPS!
  • ALWAYS go to a place that will WASH your hair first.
  • (if you are me) NEVER try to dye your hair from a box.
  • Sometimes you get what you pay for.
  • I like the color lime green on me.

OH MY GOSH!!!!! I laughed so hard when I read this. Your original haircut reminds me of something I would see on a Spaniard. I really do like how your hair turned out in the end though. You're one hot mama!

I think my personal favorite part of the original hack-job is the extra little chunk in the back. How do you miss that?

Love the new cut. I also love that color on you.

Lindsey did such a great job! Yay!!! Your before was about as bad as one Taylor had done recently where I asked the lady to just trim her hair and she ended up with chunks missing and an angle to show them off with. I have learned my lessons to just be patient and to go to someone I trust for me and the girls. Oh and you do look good in that lime green:)
